Try it Free! Lesson 4

May 18, 2019 By Robert Martin Leave a Comment

Lesson 4 will focus on Second Class Personal Pronouns and Second Class Markers.  Much like in previous lessons where you have dealt with First Class versions of these words,  but now you will be working with second class version of the same types of words.  Making the words second class makes them a less important part of the sentence, and thus emphasizes another part of the sentence.

After watching the video, do your written exercises before your next lesson.  The answer key in this week’s download files so that you can check your answers and find out if you have properly picked up on the lesson this week.

Also, you can listen to this week’s vocabulary words below to help you learn the proper sounds.

This is our last Free Lesson, but you can still study all the way to Lesson 60 by purchasing the Bisaya Buddy Course!

Try it Free! Lesson 3

For Lesson 3 we will be focusing on First Class General Pronouns.  What are general pronouns?  In English they would be words like:  this, that and such.  In Bisaya they are broken down even further by adding the distance away.  In other words you could say “that” or “that nearby” or “that far away”.  When you watch the video lesson that will be explained further.

Lesson 2

Lesson 2 will focus on First Class Markers.  What is a marker?  A marker is a word that marks the topic or the emphasis word of the sentence.  Markers are used with nouns, either proper nouns (like people’s names) or with common nouns (thing, places).  There are three different classes of markers.  In this lesson we will deal with First Class markers. Follow along with the video below for the lesson. After watching the video, do your written exercises before your next lesson.  The answer key in this week’s download files so that you can check your answers and find out if you have properly picked up on the lesson this week.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… today on Bisaya Buddy we will learn the days of the week in Bisaya! The days of the week are words that you use every single day, so if you want to be able to speak Bisaya, you need to learn these!

When you learn the days of the week in Bisaya, you might be in for a little surprise! Just watch and I am sure you will notice it right away. in fact, you might already know the Bisaya Days of the Week without even realizing it!

Keeping up with your “to-do list” or places you need to go on your calendar will all involve knowing the days of the week. These words are used so frequently in the language, regardless of what language you are using.

Learning to speak Bisaya will really improve your life if you choose to live in a Bisaya area. I know that it has made my life a lot better and more enjoyable since I learned. I started learning to speak Bisaya in 2008 and finished up with the lessons in 2012. I am so glad that I did it. It made for a happier life in the Philippines!

I hope you enjoyed today’s lesson! It is not hard to learn the days of the week, in fact, many of you probably know them already, even if you don’t realize it!

If you decide to move to the Philippines and live here, you will quickly learn that if you ask a person a question, their answer might not be definitive. If you ask a yes or no question, the answer might not be clear-cut.

A person who says yes might really mean no. A person who says no might really mean yes. It can be maddening. They will really keep you guessing.

However, if you know how to speak the language in the area where you are living, you have an advantage. Instead of answering simply “yes” or “no” they have more words. They have a word that means 100% yes, they have a word that means 80% yes, and so on. If yo understand these words, you can set your expectations better and have a better idea of whether they answer is definitely yes, or just a possibility. This can be very helpful. I believe that this lesson of Bisaya Buddy is one of the most important things you can learn because it will help you keep your sanity in the Philippines.

Try your best to memorize these words! They will come in handy if you are living here and help you properly know what to expect. This could be a lifesaver!
